Our Constitution

    Article I – Name

    The name of this organization is Fellowship of Orthodox Christians at LeTourneau University (FOC-LETU).

    Article II – Mission Statement

    FOC-LETU exists for students seeking the fullness of their faith in the Apostolic Church. Our goals:


    • To unite Orthodox Christian students at LeTourneau University for prayer, encouraging sacramental life, attending services, serving the local (campus) community, and initiating fellowship.
    • To bear witness to the ancient, apostolic faith of the Orthodox Church on campus.
    • To assist catechumens and inquirers in exploring Orthodoxy through education and discipleship.
    • To connect students with St. Ephraim Orthodox Mission in Longview, TX.
    • To build a community centered around Scripture and the teachings of the Church Fathers.

    Article III – Membership

    • Membership is open to all LeTourneau students who are interested in or practice the Orthodox faith.
    • Members must support the mission and attend regular meetings.
    • There shall be no discrimination based on race, ethnicity, denomination, or background.
    • Voting privileges are extended to active members (those who have attended at least 2 meetings continuously).

    Article IV – Officers and Leadership

    It is foundational and essential for the local parish, St. Ephraim Orthodox Mission, to be the head of FOC-LETU. Additionally, Officers must be full-time students in good standing at LeTourneau.


    • Spiritual Advisor: FOC-LETU is strictly under the spiritual direction of Father Ignatius Strange.
    • President: Organizes meetings, communicates with clergy, and represents FOC-LETU to the university.
    • Vice President: Supports the president, manages logistics, assists with events, and local parish coordination.
    • Treasurer: Maintains financial records, oversees fundraising, and prepares budget requests for the Senate.
    • Secretary: Documents meeting minutes, handles communication, and maintains member rosters.

    Article V – Elections

    • Elections are held annually in April by majority vote.
    • Nominations may be submitted anonymously or in person.
    • Officer terms are 1 academic year, renewable. Officer vacancies are filled via appointment by the President, with the majority of the members.
    • If a position is unopposed, the nominee is confirmed by simple affirmation.
    • A quorum (half of active members) is required to hold valid elections.

    Article VI – Meetings

    • Meetings will occur weekly and may include discussions, service projects, or prayer services.
    • Special events (Pre-Sanctified Liturgies, Pascha Liturgy, guest speakers, etc) will be announced in advance.
    • A quorum for official decisions is 50% of the active members.

    Article VII – Finances

    • FOC-LETU will be funded by university allocations and donations.
    • The Treasurer will prepare a semesterly budget for the Student Senate if funding is requested.
    • No dues shall be mandatory to participate.

    Article VIII – Sponsor

    At FOC-LETU, a faculty or staff sponsor must be established within LeTourneau University. The sponsor’s role is to support clubs' growth, initiative, and provide administrative guidance.

    Article IX – Committees

    Committees may be formed as needed to:


    • Plan and coordinate events
    • Promote outreach and spiritual education
    • Each committee will be chaired by an Officer or appointed member.

    Article X – Affiliations

    FOC-LETU is affiliated with St Ephraim Orthodox Mission in Longview, TX, under Father Ignatius Strange, who is the club's spiritual advisor. 

    Article XI – Amendments/Ratification

    Amendments must be proposed in writing, reviewed in a meeting, and approved by 2/3 of voting members. This constitution shall only be ratified by the club’s spiritual advisor, Father Ignatius Strange.
